- Review - Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms 26.01.08-
I didn't really know what to expect going to this gig, because even though being the over the top Elliot Minor fan that I am, I had yet to go to one of their gigs. Queuing in itself was entertaining, as we a dog with dreadlocks and had a good laugh at a shop called Upper Crusties. When we got into the gig I was over the moon to be at the front. The support band, The Electric City, were good, although they didn't really make me to giddy and hyped like a support band should do. Elliot Minor popped up 25 minutes after The Electric City left the stage, and the crowd went wild. As they entered the room the sounds of the film version of Still Figuring Out could be heard through the speakers, and it sounded incredible. Alex told us a story about how they got kicked out of a hotel because Ali took a dump on the bathroom floor and then ran around the halls naked, and then went straight into a huge rock version of Still Figuring Out. Straight afterwards they played So Here We Are, and it was one of the best songs they played that night. Alex then wished happy birthday to a French fan who'd come over especially to see her, and told the fans to get jumping for Running Away. Then they went straight into Jacky Jules (with a few lyric changes I noticed), played Lucky Star and Last Call to New York City(which by the way was incredible) and then they played The White One Is Evil. The crowd went wild for the song and fists were pumping for the entire duration of the song. They then went straight into Jessica and afterwards went into Time After Time which got all the crowd salavating for more. The encore started with Dan telling the crowd to be quiet because he was just getting his things, but soon after they went straight into an amazing rendition of Sometimes You Are Wrong, and then played The Liar Is You. The last song of the evening was Parallel Worlds, which started with Alex and Ed playing and singing acoustically and getting the crowd to join in. The rest of the band soon followed and the song started from the beginning is a HUGE rock explosion which got the crowd jumping everywhere. We met the band afterwards, and everyone except Ali took the time out to sign loads. I got Alex's all access pass since he had no spare plectrums left, and 4 of the guys signed my vinyl, plus I got a pictures with Teddy and Ed, although my picture with Alex didn't work.
Overall an incredible gig which affirms my love of the band, and gives me all the more reason to go and wait outside for 6 hours again next time.
Thanks Mike!
